Raavan, a modern day take on the Hindu epic Ramayana, is the story of a poor yet rebellious village dweller (Abhishek Bachchan) whose sister is publicly humiliated. To avenge this disgrace,he forcefully enters his oppressor's (Vikram's) house at night and in his absence kidnaps his wife (Aishwarya Rai). Chased by the police, he hides in a nearby jungle with her and after days of staying together both of them fall in love with each other. Finding no trace of his wife, the husband seeks help from a friend (Govinda) and a cop (Nikhil Dwivedi) to find her. Would he succeed in finding his wife and what obstacles he would have to face in this pursuit is what the story of Raavan is all about.
